Citations Galore

Use the links below to find citation examples for the many different types of resources you may be using for this (or any!) Research Project:

The OWL at Purdue University -- Use the links on the left side of the home page to navigate to what you're looking for.  You can see examples of papers, Works Cited pages, in-text Citations, and more!

Penn State Libraries Citation Page   -- Works much the same as the OWL.  Select your style, and examine the examples.

Cite Your Stuff!

Use NoodleTools Express to cite your sources quickly and easily.  It's a free service that allows you to enter all the bits and pieces of info from various sources and then have it all converted to a citation in the proper format.  Copy and paste the finished citation into a bibliography.  Check the APA guide in the upper right to make sure your pages are formatted correctly.

Gale Research Databases

GALE RESEARCH DATABASES
Use the Databases below to access reliable, scholarly information
for many topics and subjects.
Databases are NOT websites, we just ACCESS them through the Web.  They are cross-referenced collections of resources, including:
*Book sections * Articles from magazines and academic journals * Newsaper articles * Podcasts * TV and radio broadcasts
* Special videos * Images * Interviews * Primary sources * Speeches * Criticism * Statistics * Raw data * Topic overviews *

If you need access to these resources from home, stop by the IMC to grab a Research Access Card.  Or, if you are already AT home, drop Ms. Boehne a line and she'll send you the information.

GREENR.gif

GREENR is a specialty Database, focusing on resources related to the Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources.
Probably your best bet for research on pollutants and their impact!

Opposing Viewpoints in Context.gif

OViC is your best bet for research on controversial topics.  Because pollution and environmental issues tend to cause heated conversations, this might be a great place to research instances of pollution and their impact.

Science in Context.gif

SiC covers all science topics as well as most medical and health-related topics.  Use this DB for Biology, Chem, Physics, or any of the specialty science classes.

Gale Virtual Reference Library.gif
The Reference Library is our collection of e-books for reference.  The books located here cover a wide variety of topics, including history, literature, art, health, and science.

U.S. History In Context.gif

U.S. and World HiC cover every era of human history, from ancient times to the present.  These Databases can be searched independently OR together, for a broader search.  These tools can be used for courses BEYOND your history class--to research time periods related to the story you're reading in English, to learn about the food cultures of early America, examples of environmental disasters, etc.  Browse both broad topics AND search for specific keyword strings.
  Think outside the box!

JSTOR Academic Research Database

Jstor

JSTOR is the best resource for Academic and Professional Journals and articles.  If you are looking for a very NARROW topic, this may be the best choice for you.  You will have to set up your own account within the program to collect articles.

Websites

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): Use the search box at the top right of the screen to search for your pollutant.  You will find definitions, case studies, and many other resources here.  Be sure to scroll through your results!

Center for Disease Control (CDC): Again, use the search box.  Most of the assigned pollutants have resources regarding symptoms of exposure, recommended levels, etc.  SCROLL!

National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA): Info on oil and other chemical spills, their impact, and clean-up procedures.

NOAA - National Centers for Environmental Information: Info on a multitude of pollutants and their impacts on the environment.

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (from the National Institutes of Health): Good resource from the NIH on a multitude of pollutants and their impacts on humans and the environment in general.
